This video is of Anders Lindsjo, a Swedish Olympic Weightlifting Coach, teaching Snatch technique to American weightlifter Christmas Abott.

I really like how the session begins with Anders going over the finish position, followed by the start position. From there he gives very limited instruction and has the athlete perform the movement. After the initial set of 4 repetitions his first words are, “How does it feel?”  This demands intention and attention from the athlete. A similar theme follows for the ensuing sets. Anders gives one to two cues per set and continues to ask questions to the athlete following the sets such as, “Are you satisfied?” and “Was it good enough?”

This was clearly a very mentally demanding session for the athlete and she seemed uncomfortable at times. The coach noticed this and instructs the athlete to “rest your head” for a moment.

I really like his coaching style for a technique session and it has me wondering what tactics can we take from this technique session in the weight-room and apply it to a technique session on the track?

Also, for athletes who use Olympic lifts for training as opposed to competition, how necessary is such an in-depth technical session?
